The Challenge: Limited Roof Space, High Energy Bills

The homeowner, located in a suburban area of Curaçao, faced a common dilemma: the existing roof was partially shaded and structurally unsuited for a large solar array. Yet the household’s energy consumption—driven by air conditioning, pool pumps, and everyday appliances—remained consistently high. The solution needed to accommodate three vehicles while delivering enough generation capacity to offset a significant portion of the home’s electricity use.

The Solution: A Custom 3-Bay Solar Carport

We designed and installed a freestanding solar carport covering three parking spaces adjacent to the home. The system features:

Capacity: 12.39kWp (sized for residential net metering)

Modules: 21 high-efficiency monocrystalline panels

Structure: Corrosion-resistant aluminum frame, engineered to withstand coastal conditions and trade winds

Coverage: Approximately 55 square meters of shaded parking

The carport structure was integrated with the home’s electrical panel, allowing for seamless connection under Curaçao’s net billing framework. Surplus energy exported during peak sunlight hours credits the homeowner’s account, reducing monthly utility bills.

Results: Energy Independence with Added Value

Since commissioning, the system has delivered:

70–80% reduction in monthly electricity bills

Full shade coverage for three vehicles, protecting them from intense sun and reducing interior heat

Increased property value with a durable, aesthetically designed structure that complements the home’s architecture

From an environmental standpoint, the system is estimated to offset over 7 metric tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to planting more than 300 trees each year.
